Q. Where were you born and raised?
A. I was born in Birmingham, but I grew up in Oxford, AL.
Q. As a child, how would you describe yourself?
A. A miniature “P. T. Barnum and Bailey” kid who hated getting in trouble but didn’t hate it enough to stay out of trouble.
Q. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A. One of these three: A professional football player, lead singer of rock band, or a radio show host.
Q. What activities were you most involved with as a kid?
A. Playing the “Big 3 Sports” (basketball, football and baseball) and goofing off in the woods.
Q. What life lessons did you learn growing up that helped shape you into the person you are today?
A. You must respect authority and never ride a wagon down a hill…there are no brakes.
Q. What was your first job like?
A. I worked for the city. It was hot, nasty work with very little pay. It helped me figure out what I did not want to do.
Q. At what moment did you realize that you wanted to go into radio?
A. I was about eight or nine years old and listening to the radio in my dads truck and in my room at home.
Q. When The Rick and Bubba Show first began, did you ever imagine that it would become what it is today?
A. I knew it always could, but I was shocked that GOD broke down barriers that seemed impossible for the show to overcome.
Q. What are some of your favorite memories you have from the show?
A. Turkey Toss and Fat Fest are my favorite events. My favorite shows include so many, including the first time we went on air with no music and all talk. In general, I love the shows that enter into intense, spiritual conversations.
Q. Who has been your most memorable guest to appear on the show?
A. For me, it's got to be Bill Cosby. He taught me to tell funny stories as a child and I couldn't believe that I had the opportunity of talking to him and then later I introduced him on stage.
Q. What are some things in life you can't live without?
A. I can't live without the HOLY SPIRIT reminding me that GOD is real and in control.
Q. How do you want to be remembered?
A. I want to be remembered as a GODLY man who made an impact for the kingdom of GOD and adored his wife and children.
Q. If you could give anyone one piece of advice, what would it be?
A. Submit to the authority of GOD and make CHRIST your LORD and Saviour…follow HIM. He's right.
